Step 3.1: Student Experience Survey Findings
Students (n=268) responded to the survey distributed via Canvas at the end of the term. Three key points emerged.
Point #1 — Location and Impact on Synchronous Participation
• 13% of respondents were from Canada and outside BC
• 12% were from outside Canada
• Therefore, 25% of respondents from Summer Term 1 were in a different time zone than UBC Okanagan
Point #2 — Technology Issues
When asked if they had experienced technology issues that has impacted their ability to access learning materials,
• 44% responded YES
• 56% responding NO
• 25% stated they had experienced problems with either their Internet lagging or dropping
Point #3 — Suggestions arising from the Survey Comments
• Instructors need to be more consistent in their use of technologies
• Instructors need to focus on improving their pedagogy / teaching
• Instructors cannot use the approaches online that they use in face-to-face learning
• Instructors must re-think how they assess / evaluate students. PROCTORIO was problematic
• Instructors need to think of other ways of assessing — more than just exams / quizzes
• Instructors need to reconsider how labs are done
