Strategic Reviews

As part of UBC Okanagan’s commitments to pursuing excellence in teaching, learning, training and research, the campus undertakes strategic reviews to identify new opportunities for future growth and development. External reviews are an important means of promoting accountability and transparency across the university and are an opportunity to continuously improve academic excellence. UBC Okanagan also conducts reviews of academic units, which are governed by  UBC’s policy on reviews and the Principles, Procedures and Guidelines for External Academic Unit Reviews.

Strategic External Review of Health

From September 2021 – January 2022 UBC Okanagan engaged in a strategic review of the campus’ health programming and activities. The intention of the review was to determine an overall approach to developing a sustainable Health Strategy for the campus that will inform diverse outcomes, such as faculty recruitment, program development and integrating health-related research and teaching, among others.

The timing of this review was ideal, particularly given UBC Health’s release of its strategic plan in 2021, alongside tremendous expansion of health-related activities and programming across all Faculties at UBC Okanagan since the campus’ inception.

The terms of reference guiding the review included the following objectives:

  1. Review the constitution, balance and coordination of health-related clinical, educational and research programs at UBC Okanagan, as well as the strength of key strategic relationships/collaborations.
  2. Provide recommendations about future growth and development of health programs at UBC Okanagan.
