UBC Okanagan alumni are invited to join the UBC Okanagan Arts Career Apprenticeship Program (UBCO ACAP) as Mentors. The UBCO ACAP connects upcoming arts, humanities and social sciences graduates with Okanagan-based employers for one-year early-career employment opportunities.
The third graduate cohort will begin their placements in spring 2023, and we are seeking alumni mentors for one-year terms beginning May 2023.

The career and leadership skills and techniques that you have gained post-graduation will inspire a new generation of UBCO graduates who are passionate about the arts and humanities and who want to make an impact in the world through meaningful careers.
Mentoring is an impactful experience for both the mentor and mentee. Share your story, career path and the knowledge that has led to your own success and make an impact in another graduates’ career development.
Expand your professional network
Through the UBCO ACAP you will meet a range of new professionals, including Okanagan business contacts, other mentors, UBC professionals and volunteers serving on the UBCO ACAP Advisory Council. This experience will allow you to expand your connections in the Okanagan business community, including with start-ups and industry organizations and gain new relationships and perspectives.
Mentor Requirements & Eligibility
- Provide insight from your own career path and identify knowledge needed for mentees.
- Have at least five years of working experience post-graduation.
- Many skills and fields of expertise are transferable to other career trajectories. As such, we are accepting a diverse range of professionals experience, including but not limited to the following fields:
- business management and strategy
- community planning
- design and engineering
- marketing, branding and communications
- performing arts
- system development and programming
- visual arts
2023 Mentorship Commitment
In 2023, the UBCO ACAP will require up to 10 mentors for the incoming cohort. Mentors will be matched to a mentee, factoring in the needs and sectors of the participating employers and cohort mentees. Each mentor will commit to meeting with their mentee once per month for the one-year term through mentor check-ins (via phone, Zoom, etc.). The mentor cohort and mentee cohort will be connected at the end of the one-year-term for a year-end wrap-up event, which will include representatives from UBC, participating businesses/organizations, fellow mentors and the UBCO ACAP Advisory Council.
