The Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic is seeking Expressions of Interest for the Academic Advisor on Artificial Intelligence (AI) term position beginning August 1, 2025 and ending July 31, 2026 with the possibility of renewal for a second term.
Working closely with and reporting to the Associate Provost, Teaching and Learning, the Advisor will help develop an AI roadmap for the Okanagan campus, including leadership and guidance in exploring AI and other emerging technologies, as well as serving as a key point of connection for the campus and local communities.
Position Overview
The Advisor will:
- Advise campus leadership on the benefits, risks, and issues related to AI in developing a roadmap aligned with the university’s vision, values, and goals.
- Act as a connection and communication point for on-campus AI activities and initiatives.
- Support major initiatives related to AI and emerging technologies, including for teaching, learning, research and administrative purposes.
- Foster community and local industry connections related to AI and its applications to support UBCO students, faculty and staff with engagement in this emerging area.
As AI and other emerging technologies continue to develop at a rapid pace, the responsibilities may shift to align with academic priorities and strategic goals of the campus and university and in relation to the preferred focus areas of the successful applicant.
Please note that the funding available for this position would enable a partial secondment from your existing faculty work (up to the equivalent of two course releases per academic year), plus $5,000 for the incumbent in the role to use to support their scholarship on teaching and learning or other teaching and learning related activities (including conference participation).
Position Details
This part-time position is internal to UBC Okanagan. Applicants must be a full-time faculty member with a continuing appointment for the following year and relevant experience with AI and emerging technologies.
